Tonight we clipped the puppies dew claws and changed carpet. My 6 year old, Gracyn, was adamant that we do it last night, but after ball games we ran out of time. She went to bed with tears in her eyes, and said, "dad, you promised we could clip dew claws tonight!" She has been my helper for the past couple years when it comes to dew claws. No one else likes to help because the puppies whine a little bit. I think someday she'll make a great veterinarian! After a few short whines, all was well again and the kids enjoyed sitting in the whelping box and holding puppies! I think most of the whining comes from the fact that the new carpet doesn't smell like home anymore. It takes them a little getting used and "Momma" coming in to let them all know that everything is going to be ok. This stage is so great in the fact that we the puppies are very content to be held and don't wiggle around a whole lot.
