Lazy Dayz!

It seemed like the theme of tonight's playtime was napping! There was lots of yawning going on.  It's hard to tell from the pictures tonight, but they are becoming so alert. Every time someone goes in to check on them they perk their little ears up and congregate to the edge of the whelping box to see who is in there and what is going on.  I'm fairly convinced they are only checking to see if mama is coming in to give them their next meal. We may however be teaching them bad habits at a young age...as you can see from the pictures below the rule of no pets on the furniture doesn't apply to these little rugrats.  My excuse is that they are too young to know any better, and way to cute to tell otherwise!

More puppy time in the house tonight.  They are almost getting too big for the little box anymore, I'll either have to invest in a bigger box soon, or we'll have to figure out something else to do with pictures!  The are really starting to get vocal the last couple of days.  They definitely whine, cry, and whimper a lot more today when they don't get exactly what they want. I went in tonight and Remi was laying on her blanket outside the whelping box and they were letting her know they were hungry and they wanted her in there.   When she does lay in there and doesn't feel like feeding them she'll lay on her back. It's quite comical to see.  Their eyes are all open now and although they are a little hazy you can tell they are more and more alert.  They are wobbly walking around on all fours instead of scooting on their tummies, and can get around the whelping box pretty well. It's hard to imagine that in a couple of weeks they will be hard to keep up with and eating solid food.  That's when the work begins!  But....for right now we'll just enjoy this stage where they are pretty content laying around and being held.

Do you see what I see?

Today the puppies are 2 weeks old, and for the first time some of them are starting to open their eyes. I went out this afternoon and noticed one little girl whose eyes were completely open and couple more that were starting to open up. By tomorrow they should all be open and hopefully between naps we get to see a little more of their eyes!   They're pretty glassy right now, but it's always a fun milestone for the kids to see. It marks one of the many changes that they will go through in their young lives, and it's fun to see how many change they go through in the 7-8 weeks they are with us. I also notice some puppies are starting to scoot around all fours. Their definitely not the graceful,  athletic little puppies that you'll see as they get older, but once again another milestone that we get to experience that indicates in a couple more weeks they'll be moving so quickly we can't hardly keep up!

A few more pictures from tonight!  It's hard to believe how much they've grown thus far, and the kids are adamant about holding the puppies when we go out there.  We have their little lawn chairs so they can sit down and each hold them.  They are all doing very well and very difficult to distinguish between.  The kids are starting to come up with some names, and at the ages of 3,4, and 6 some of those names get quite interesting. Boden decided that the one he was holding at the time would be named, "Dog!"   Kinley named hers "Leah", and Gracyn named hers "Belle" after our greatest dog who past away in November.  Those are just a few names that would be out there for the taking, I personally like "Dog", but you may choose however you like!  As you can see from the pictures they are getting quite cuddly.  They are pretty content if you hold them just right to just lay there without a care in the world.   The kids also like to offer them a finger as a pacifier for when they do start to fuss!

First night in the house

My 6 year old, Gracyn, thought it would be a great idea to take a picture of the puppies in the Remington box since their mom's official name is Remington. Pretty good idea if I may say so myself.   My idea of taking a picture by the pheasant got voted against! Tonight we took the puppies inside for a little while.  It's kind of fun to see how the kids react when dad says, "I got a suprise!"
